Description
This historical strategy game is a block game for 2 players.
One player controls the Romans, the other the Barbarians (Germanic tribes: Cherusci, Chatti, Marcomanni, Bructeri).
In addition to its gameplay mechanics, it offers two innovations for historical games:
– A game board in the form of a microfiber mat that prevents creases, and
– Blocks printed directly during manufacturing (eliminating the need for stickers).
1 metal box measuring containing:
*78 square black or white blocks with 2 cm edges made of PVC (innovative, as the blocks are already printed, they require no adjustments or stickers that were traditionally applied to their surface).
*A printed, wrinkle-free microfiber game mat measuring approximately 87 x 65 cm (an innovative feature for historical games).
*4 dice in 2 colors (Note: due to a late change of supplier, this is the only game component not made in France, but in this case, in China).
*1 double-sided cardboard player aid in French.
*1 double-sided cardboard player aid in English.
*A rulebook in French.
*A rulebook in English.
During the late Republic, in the 1st century BC and AD, the Romans, on the edge of the great Germanic forests, had to hold their ground. Offensives as deep as possible into the heart of the woodlands could be a way to repel the Germanic tribes (but beware of them; historically, the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, for example, saw two Roman legions annihilated and their leader Varus killed). These Germanic tribes, accustomed to their environment and climate, launched a series of raids against Romanized positions.
At the start of the game, each player strategically and deliberately sets up their treasures, terrain, stratagems, and armies, arranging them as they see fit, although there are historical and common-sense guidelines for these actions. Consequently, no two games are identical, and the uncertainty of hidden assets is compounded by the inherent uncertainty of strategic choices in army composition.
This game is not suitable for colorblind people.
